This International Women's Day, we want to celebrate women all over the world and thank Wallaroo Hat Company's founder, Stephanie Carter, for the work she continues to do to move women forward.
An award-winning entrepreneur, philanthropist, and visionary, Stephanie was a pioneer in the sun protection apparel movement when she started Boulder-based Wallaroo Hat Company in 1999. A vanguard in the headwear industry, Stephanie also served as the first female President of The Headwear Association (THA). Wallaroo Hat Company has since become a leading global brand and certified B Corporation. Certified B Corps balance purpose and profit and are required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. Carter is committed to this global movement of using business as a force for good. As a B Corp company, Wallaroo sets an example for other standard organizations to conduct business in a way that improves the lives of its employees and customers. These companies serve a greater purpose to make a change, pass laws, and drive capital. Those practices are what motivate Carter as CEO of Wallaroo Hat Company.
Stephanie is also Co-founder of PridePads Africa, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to manufacturing earth-friendly, bio-degradable sanitary pads for girls and women in rural Cameroon. She is working to promote girls' education by providing access to sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene education ensuring that they can stay in school and complete their education.
Carter was recognized by the Boulder Chamber of Commerce with their prestigious “Women Who Light the Community” award in 2019 for her significant contributions through innovation and her committed efforts to address meaningful business, nonprofit, and community needs on a local, national, and global scale.
The world needs more women like Carter to help lead the way for other women and female led businesses.
