Fashion Meets Function

Fashion Meets Function

While most of us wait all year for the sunny days of summer, that doesn’t mean we should wait until summer to think about skin protection. Protecting our skin from the sun’s harmful rays is a year-round job, because warm weather UV rays are just as dangerous as cold weather UV rays.

At Wallaroo Hat Company, our mission is to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Our stylish, fashion-forward hats, featuring UPF 30+ and 50+ fabrics, are more than just accessories. They’re an important part of a good sun protection plan.

But don’t take our word for it, let’s find out what top dermatologists from around the country say about sun protection.

Wallaroo Hat Company’s Commitment to Skin Cancer Prevention

To stay on top of the latest in skin cancer prevention, Wallaroo Hat Company exhibits at the AAD-American Academy of Dermatology every year. While at this event, Wallaroo CEO & Founder, Stephanie Carter, speaks with board-certified dermatologists to get their thoughts on skin protection and how Wallaroo hats can be an important part of an everyday sun protection routine.

The Experts Weigh In

Dr. Beth Briden is one of Wallaroo’s earliest customers and a board-certified dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon at Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Institute, as well as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Briden stresses the importance of sun protection, “With over 4 million cases of skin cancer each year due to chronic exposure to Ultraviolet A & B (rays), sun protection is imperative. I tell my patients that means using sunscreen and wearing a hat, as it’s difficult to protect the scalp with sunscreen.”

Dr. Briden is so passionate about skin protection that her practice features a skin care division, which includes sun protection products. Not surprisingly, Wallaroo hats are one of her top sellers. She says, “Patients come in just to shop for Wallaroo hats because they know they are fashion-forward and sun protective.”

Another Wallaroo Hat Company supporter is Dr. Mark Russell, a board-certified dermatologist and professor at the University of Virginia. When it comes to skin care, Dr. Russell believes in prevention, education, and early detection - so much so that he hosts an annual free skin cancer screening to catch skin cancer in its early stages when possible and to educate people about better skincare habits.  One of those habits is wearing a hat. But, as Dr. Russell says, “Ball caps don’t cut it. While they may block the sun from one’s eyes, they’re not protecting the ears or the neck like Wallaroo’s wide-brimmed hats with UPF fabric.”*

Another board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Nahea Gupta, is a frequent traveler who won’t leave home without her Wallaroo hat. She appreciates the protection offered by Wallaroo’s wide brims and UPF fabric for blocking harmful ultraviolet rays and says the modern styling of Wallaroo hats can elevate any outfit. Dr. Gupta’s key message regarding skin protection? “Sun protection is necessary all year long - not just in the warm summer months.”

When it comes to protecting yourself from the sun, remember what the experts recommend, and invest in a fashion-forward, Wallaroo hat with UPF protective fabric. Together with the skin care experts, Wallaroo Hat Company believes that looking good and staying safe from harmful rays goes hand in hand.

And remember…

It’s a sunny life. Wear your hat.
