Smart Sun Protection from Head to Tee

Summer is upon us, and with it comes the many outdoor activities we wait for all year, one of which is golf. That means it’s time to dust off the clubs, start hitting the driving range, and assess your golf wardrobe to see if it’s time for any updates like sun protective headwear from Wallaroo. Whether you’re playing or spectating, time spent on the course calls for extra sun protection.

If you’re a woman who loves golf, two exciting events are kicking off the season, both taking place the last week of May - the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship at Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin, and Women’s Golf Day. Events like these provide golf enjoyment for players and non-players alike and showcase the rise in female golfers in the past five years. According to the National Golf Foundation, 2.3 million females have hit the fairways since 2020, and in 2024, statistics reported the golf population consists of almost 8 million female golfers over the age of six. That means over one-quarter (28%) of the players on the course are female.

Women’s Golf Day is a week-long celebration with events around the world supporting girls and women in golf. Each year, golf management companies, retailers, golf organizations, and governing bodies around the globe host Women’s Golf Day events between the last Tuesday in May and the first Tuesday in June to help women and girls deepen their understanding of the game and raise their skill level. Even if you don’t take part in official Women’s Golf Day activities, it’s a great week to raise awareness of this growing population of golfers.

The Rise of Fashion in Women’s Golf

Just as the landscape of golf has evolved to include more females, so has the arena for women’s golf apparel. There are more brands, designs, styles, and options than ever, and women are loving it. From stylish and functional athleisure to more elegant designs that seamlessly transition from the course to country club, there are options for every golfer’s personal style.  If the sport alone doesn’t inspire you to pick up a club, maybe the wide variety of gorgeous apparel and headwear will!

Wallaroo is Here for Women Golfers

When it comes to sun protection on the golf course, we can’t stop with apparel or sunscreen - hats are a critical part of a golfer’s sun protection tool kit. Good news for women golfers - Wallaroo hats are both sun protective and designed with golfers in mind, especially our Carkella line. Each Carkella hat features a signature hidden magnet discreetly built into the trim, making a perfect spot for customized emblems that double as ball markers. Some great Carkella options are the Lauren, Vivian, or the always popular Lily Visor. (*the Lily visor does not support a magnet for the ball marker, however.)

In addition, we offer a wide variety of UPF 50+ hats,  perfect for a day on the course, such as the packable Victoria, which comes in a variety of colors. Or try the stylish Gabi, also packable with a variety of color options, and even has a slot for a ponytail.

Don’t Take Our Word for It

While of course, all of us at Wallaroo think our hats are great for golf… we wanted to check with the experts so we talked to one of our biggest fans and Wallaroo Ambassador, USGA-Certified Golf Rules Educator, Marcela Smith

Marcela can definitely vouch for both the growing popularity of golf and the need for sun protection on the course. She told us, "As a golf rules educator, I spend long hours on the course, often in the sun—so I rely on the wide-brimmed protection of Wallaroo hats to stay cool and covered. I love that I can match them to my golf outfits without sacrificing function. The Carkella line is especially clever, with a built-in magnetic ball marker that makes marking my ball on the green quick and easy."

Heading into Summer

As we head into summer, it’s a great time to get out and play the game with your favorite golfing friends. If you’re not a golfer but have been thinking of learning the game, maybe this is your sign. So, grab your clubs and throw on your stylish UPF protective gear from head to toe, and you’ll be ready to safely enjoy the sun and fun of a day on the course.

And remember…

It’s a sunny life. Wear your hat.
