The hat packing tutorial you never knew you needed.

One of the best attributes of Wallaroo hats is that they are packable. You can take your Wallaroo wherever you go and not worry about losing or destroying it. (Raise your hand if this has happened to you in the past.)

Gone are the days when your only option was to buy a cumbersome beach hat, knowing you’d destroy it on your trip or leave it at your vacation spot because you didn’t have the space or energy to deal with it.

With Wallaroo packable travel hats, you don’t have to worry. Our hats fit into your suitcase, carry-on, golf bag, beach bag or purse, so you can take them wherever you go.

Now, you might be thinking… packable hats sound great, but is there a right way to pack my hat? I mean, who wants to buy a travel hat and then ruin it by packing it incorrectly?

Valid concern.

We thought you might be wondering, which is why every Wallaroo hat has packing instructions that can be found on our website. When in doubt, check out the various methods for making your hats travel ready.

We have also created a guide to help you match a packing method with your Wallaroo hat (or future hat):

Let’s begin with the Official Wallaroo Packing Lingo:

Basically, when it comes to packing a Wallaroo hat, you can: stuff it, fold it like a soft taco, roll it,  or lay it flat.  The method you choose depends on the hat you’re wearing.

Let’s explore your options.

Who Can Take Just One Hat?  Advice for packing multiple Wallaroo hats:

Whether you’re a fashion maven with a Wallaroo to match every outfit or you are traveling with a family of Wallaroo fans, there’s strength in numbers when it comes to hats. Luckily, most of our hats are packable, so you can easily stow away your fishing hat, boating hat, or any outdoor hat you wish. To pack multiple Wallaroo hats, use one hat as the base, and then determine how you’ll fit the existing hats inside. Let’s say you have two hats for your upcoming trip - start with the base, and fold the second hat like a taco,  lay it on its side, and place it on the first hat. If you’re traveling with one of our visors  (such as a Sedona Visor or Carkella Lily Visor), collapse the visor, then roll and stuff it into another hat or a corner of your suitcase.

But how do you know when to stuff, roll, or fold your hats? Or just lay them flat?

Let’s do a deep dive!

When to Stuff Your Wallaroo:

Think of stuffable hats as ones that can have things like rolled socks, undergarments, and smaller incidentals tucked inside the crown to help protect the hat during travel. Hats like the Aspen, Victoria, Darby, or Logan (with a chin strap for water activities like boating, kayaking, or fishing) are as stuffable as they are stylish. In addition, our Carkella Collection is another great option that can be easily stuffed and stored, making sun protection and fashion on the go a no-brainer.

When to Fold Your Wallaroo Like a Taco:

Sorry if this is making you hungry, but many of our hats easily fold into a soft taco - which happens to be the perfect shape to throw in your suitcase, carry-on, or golf bag. The "soft taco" fold is the easiest of all - just fold in the middle but be sure NOT to crease the brim. Hats you can fold like a taco include The Josie, or The Cabo and The Sanibel, which both offer superior sun protection and come with the added bonus of a chin strap for windy mountain peaks or breezy days on the water. More great choices include  The Gabi, The Charlie, or The Montecito.

And sometimes, it’s not about the soft taco fold… you just need to fold your hat as demonstrated for  The Palm Beach. It’s one of our hats that folds easily and pops right back to its regular shape.

Sometimes You’ve Just Got to Roll It:

Just as our Wallaroo hats give off a low-key, roll-with-it vibe, they also literally roll up for easy transport. Use the “roll it” technique for many of our hats, including the Breton, Bianca, Naomi, Sydney, and the Savannah Visor (as well as most of our visors!).

When all else fails, sometimes the best way to pack a Wallaroo is flat:

An example of this is The Aqua Hat - a fan favorite for those who love to hit the water on kayaks or boards. When it’s time to call it a day with these collapsable styles, simply lay it flat, and pack it away. The same goes for our “Boonie Hats”  like the Wallaroo Summit (perfect for outdoor adventures), The Explorer or The Ladies Explorer - perfect for fishing or rapids adventures.

And finally, while all these packing methods are great, “packing malfunctions” (or life malfunctions) may happen.  If your Wallaroo hat gets crushed and needs to be reshaped, rest assured - our hats are made with quality craftsmanship that can withstand a lot. Follow these tips to bring your Wallaroo hat back to life if it needs reshaping.

Wherever your outdoor adventures take you, it’s easy to bring along your Wallaroo hat.

Remember - It’s a sunny life. Wear your hat.
